The acrylic puzzle case

A five-sided clear case the finished puzzle slides into. No glue, no pressure plate, reversible in seconds. Here is exactly how it works.

Most puzzle preservation fights the object: glue it flat, clamp it, laminate it. The case approach accepts the puzzle as it is, a 1.9 mm sheet of 500 interlocked pieces, and builds a precise box around it.

How the slide fit works

A Puzzably case is five sides of polished clear acrylic, open along one short edge. The geometry is the whole product:

  • Finished puzzle: 530 x 390 mm, every Puzzably design, no exceptions.
  • Case internal: 532 x 392 mm.
  • Tolerance: 2 mm in each axis.

Two millimeters is the number that makes glue unnecessary. Enough clearance that the puzzle, riding on its backing sheet, slides in with no force; little enough that once inside, no piece has room to lift or drift. The puzzle cannot fall apart because there is nowhere for it to go.

Sliding it out is the same motion reversed. Nothing was glued, nothing bent: the puzzle goes back to the table, gets re-solved at Christmas, returns to the case after.

What it looks like in a room

Upright, the case reads like a record in a stand or a slim book: a clear spine of acrylic with the artwork face-out. It stands on its own bottom edge on any flat surface. The styling notes in puzzle wall art apply; the short version is that one case on a credenza or mantel reads as a design object, and a row of them reads as a collection, which is rather the idea.

Because the acrylic is polished on every edge, the puzzle's own thickness stays visible. A framed puzzle hides what it is; the case states it. People notice the cut lines up close, and that is a feature.

Care

  • Dust with a microfiber cloth; acrylic scratches under paper towels.
  • No ammonia cleaners (they craze acrylic over time); mild soap and water if it ever needs more than dusting.
  • Keep out of direct daily sun, the same advice as any printed art. The puzzle inks are the limit, not the case.

The honest limits

  • Sizing is exact by design. The case fits 530 x 390 mm puzzles, which means Puzzably puzzles. It will not fit your finished Ravensburger; for that, see the frames guide.
  • It is shelf-first. The case can hang, but its character is the upright stance. If you want a flat wall piece behind glass, a pressure frame does that for less.
  • It rewards a collection. One case is a nice object. The economics and the look both improve when the puzzles rotate: solve, slide in, display, swap when the next one is done.

Where to get one

Cases are offered as an add-on when you order any Puzzably puzzle (every design in the catalog and everything made in the studio finishes at the same case-ready size). While we finalize production samples, orders are paused; you can design now, and lock founding member pricing of 50% off your first puzzle for when they open.

Frequently asked questions

How does a puzzle stay together in an acrylic case without glue?

Fit. The case's internal dimensions are 2 mm larger than the finished puzzle in each axis. The puzzle slides in on its backing sheet, and once inside, pieces have no room to lift or drift. Removal is just the reverse slide.

Will the acrylic case fit puzzles from other brands?

No. The case is cut to Puzzably's single finished size of 530 x 390 mm. Other brands' puzzles vary in size and need a measured frame instead; see our puzzle frame size guide.

Can you re-solve a puzzle after casing it?

Yes, that is the point. Slide the puzzle out, break it down, solve it again, slide it back. Nothing is glued or bonded at any step.

How do you clean an acrylic puzzle case?

Microfiber cloth for dust. For more, mild soap and water. Avoid paper towels (micro-scratches) and ammonia-based glass cleaners (they craze acrylic over time).

Does the case stand up on its own?

Yes. It stands upright on its bottom edge on any flat surface, like a record in a stand, and can also lean on a ledge or mantel. No easel or hardware required.
