Framed Puzzle Displays

The assembly is the event. The framed display is the result. A Puzzably puzzle is designed from the outset to be assembled and then mounted: the 530x390mm print dimensions correspond to a standard display-case size, the premium board holds its surface without warping under acrylic, and the print quality at this scale is indistinguishable from a gallery-quality art print once the puzzle is framed and on the wall. This page covers every practical step from final piece to finished display.

Frames, cases, and mounting options

The cleanest approach is a purpose-made jigsaw puzzle display case sized to 530x390mm: a rigid acrylic front panel, backing board, and a back-loading slot that accepts the assembled puzzle without any cutting or adhesive. These are available from most home goods and hobby retailers. The alternative is a conventional photo frame in the same dimensions, which requires the puzzle to be glued before it will sit flat under glass. A float-mount frame (where the puzzle sits on a backing board without a glass or acrylic front) is appropriate for a room with low humidity and no direct sun, but provides less protection for the puzzle surface over time. For permanent display, the sealed acrylic case is the recommended approach.

How to glue and prepare a puzzle for framing

If you are mounting in a conventional frame rather than a purpose-made display case, apply puzzle-preservation glue before framing. Work on a clean, flat surface. Slide the completed puzzle onto a piece of cardboard slightly larger than the puzzle dimensions (this allows you to move it safely once glued). Apply the glue across the puzzle surface in smooth, overlapping strokes using the applicator or a flat brush, working from the centre outward. Allow to dry completely (usually two to four hours) before handling. Once dry, the puzzle surface is rigid and can be handled without piece displacement. Flip and apply a second coat to the reverse if you want maximum rigidity for a permanent display.

Frequently asked questions

What exact frame size do I need for a Puzzably puzzle?

Puzzably puzzles print at 530x390mm. Look for display cases or frames labelled 53x39cm or approximately 21x15.4 inches. This is a standard format stocked by most major home goods retailers and specialist puzzle-framing suppliers. Always verify the inner dimension of the frame (not the outer) before purchasing.

Do I have to glue the puzzle before framing it?

Only if you are using a frame that requires the puzzle to be rigid (conventional glass-front picture frame). If you are using a purpose-made puzzle display case with a back-loading slot and tight-fitting back panel, gluing is optional. Many people prefer not to glue so they can disassemble and re-do the puzzle in the future.

How do I transport a completed puzzle from the table to the wall without it falling apart?

Slide the completed puzzle (optionally glued) onto a rigid backing board slightly larger than the puzzle dimensions, then slide the board and puzzle together into the display case. If the puzzle is not glued, work very slowly and keep the surface perfectly level during transport. Two people make this step significantly easier. Do not attempt to lift or tilt an unglued puzzle freehand.
